The West Division leading Hamilton Red Wings made a huge splash on the trade market Friday morning, acquiring a huge offensive boost from the Wellington Dukes, while dealing a defenceman to the Milton IceHawks.

The Wings added Erick Delaurentis from the Wellington Dukes, giving their already potent offence even more options. Delaurentis, a 1994-born forward, was captain of the Dukes at the time of the trade, having held the position since 2013-14.

A high-scoring winger, Delaurentis finished top-20 in the OJHL scoring race last season, with 64 points in 52 games. He also lead the Dukes in scoring for the season, with 17 points more than the second-place finisher. Delaurentis has 136 points in 159 career OJHL games.

The Markham native was a 12th-round pick of the Belleville Bulls (223rd overall) in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection Draft. Delaurentis spent the past three seasons with the Dukes, and was named to the OJHL South-East Conference All-Star Team in 2013-14, and to the East Division All-Star Team in 2012-13. He also played in the Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge in 2012 and 2013.

In another move on Friday, Hamilton traded defenceman Josh Chiarot to the Milton IceHawks.

Chiarot, a 1997-born native of Hamilton, started his OJHL career with his hometown Red Wings as a 16-year-old in 2013-14. Prior to joining the Wings, he patrolled the blueline for the Hamilton Huskies Midget AAA. Chiarot was an 11th-round pick of the North Bay Battalion (206th overall) in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection Draft.

In 47 games with the Red Wings in last season, Chiarot had six assists and 32 penalty minutes. Standing 6'3" and weighing 215 lbs, the hulking d-man is still searching for his first OJHL goal. He played seven scoreless games for the Wings in 2014-15, picking up six penalty minutes. Chiarot joins an IceHawks squad that currently sits third in the West Division.
